Cigar Box Guitar – Aug 1 and Aug 2

$345.00

About the course:

What do great blues legends Lightning Hopkins, Albert King, and Muddy Waters all have in common? They got their start playing a primitive cigar box guitar they made themselves. In this two-day workshop students will learn how to transform a humble cigar box into a unique, one-of-a kind, hand crafted musical instrument. Whether you are new to woodworking, a seasoned veteran, an accomplished musician, or not musically inclined, this workshop is a great introduction into the world of cigar box guitar building.  Only basic tools are required to build a three-string, fretless CBG. Early Delta blues musicians would adorn their instruments by attaching trinkets or small icons to them. Students are encouraged to bring a small charm, document, coin, piece of art or natural material (ie: small bones, shells, bark) to adorn their musical creations, making them truly unique. All tools and materials will be supplied, as well as pointers and tips on playing. Learn new skills, work with your hands and create some homemade music in this fun and informative workshop.
