$145.00

About the course:

Interested in learning the Basics of Scandinavian figure carving? This workshop is perfect for first-time carvers, or folks wishing to brush up on their skills. In this workshop students will experience the history, tradition, and steps involved in traditional Scandinavian flat-plane figure carving. Emphasis will be placed on the introduction and skillful use of traditional cuts and stylized shapes to bring a Dala horse to life. Popular throughout Scandinavia, the carved wooden horse has been the subject of folk artists for more than four centuries. The Dalecarlian (Dala) is the most famous, heralding from the Swedish province of Dalarna. It is often painted with stunning floral and ornamental designs. This workshop offers the opportunity to carve and paint your own, using traditional carving techniques with a single bevel carving knife.
