HOUSE CONCERT
Thursday July 9, 2026, 7-9PM
Southfield Church Hall. Southfield, MA
Featuring David Reed
“Americana Groove Music from the Caribbean to the Delta”

We’ve asked instructor David Reed to perform a very special benefit house concert for the Mill River Folk School. David is teaching a two-day Cigar Box Guitar making workshop with Steve Butler, where students will make their own primitive 3-string fretless cigar box guitar – one of the elemental instruments of the blues. Not everyone is familiar with the mighty sounds of this humble instrument. We decided to have a concert so you could hear for yourself, and no one plays it better than David Reed, founding member and guitarist for the nationally acclaimed jam band Max Creek.
Not only is David a seasoned performer with seven CD recordings under his belt, but he also builds wonderfully unique and quirky cigar guitars under the aegis of “Dr. Easy’s Sonic Boxes” from which he delivers his personal brand of tasty, slip-slidin’ juke joint country blues & smokehouse rock. This concert will primarily feature his unique, handmade cigar box guitars…but he promised that there’ll be some guitar & banjo pickin’, harp blowin’, foot stompin, plenty of caterwauling . . . and a conch shell!
This event is free (suggested donation of $10) so come early as space is limited and will fill quickly. To learn more about David, his music and his wonderful cigar box guitars, visit
